Day 1: Depart North Wales and head to Lichfield, which may well be one of England’s most beautiful towns, with sublime 18th century architecture and a breathtaking cathedral – the only medieval cathedral anywhere to have three spires!
It also has a lot of heritage, as the birthplace of 18th century writer Samuel Johnson and home to Charles Darwin’s grandfather, with museums to celebrate both of their lives.
We will continue to our hotel late afternoon, for a 2-night stay. Relax and make use of the hotel’s leisure facilities before your evening meal.
Day 2: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we journey to the ancient city of Coventry, known for the medieval Coventry Cathedral, which was left in ruins after a WWII bombing. A 20th-century replacement, with abstract stained glass, stands beside it.
The collection at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum includes paintings of local heroine Lady Godiva. A statue of her, naked on horseback, is nearby. Enjoy the day in Coventry to do as you wish before we return to the hotel for our evening meal.
Day 3: Travel to Birmingham after breakfast, where you can do as you wish. Birmingham is home to a network of canals, many of which are now lined with trendy cafes and bars. In the city centre is the Bullring Shopping Centre and the largest Primark store in the country.
We will depart for our journey home mid-afternoon.
