Itinerary

Day 1: Travel & Harrogate

Morning departure from North Wales and travel to the spa town of Harrogate, characterised by Victorian and Edwardian buildings that tower above the pavements. Stroll around the tree lined avenues and beautiful gardens or explore the many shopping possibilities. Rest your legs with a cup of tea and a slice of cake at the famous Betty’s Café Tea Rooms. Afterwards, we will continue our journey to the Delta by Marriott Durham Royal County Hotel for a 4-night stay.

Day 2: Wensleydale Railway and World of James Herriot

This morning, we travel south to Leeming Bar for a relaxing ride on the Wensleydale Railway through the rolling countryside to Leyburn.

This afternoon, we visit the World of James Herriot Museum in Thirsk, the original home of All Creatures Great and Small.

You can browse and tour the Museum at your own leisure. There’s so much to see and do, walk through his fully restored 1940s home and surgery, travel back in time to what life was like when James was practicing. See the car he drove, step into the TV set, try your hand at being a Vet, plus so much more, including interactive games for Herriot fans of all ages. A visit to the World of James Herriot is something you will never forget.

Day 3: Beamish, The Living Museum of the North

Today we visit Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, a living, working museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful Durham countryside. Trams rattle along the cobbled streets and costumed folk bring to life how things were in north east England in the 1820s,1910s and 1940s. But what makes Beamish rather special are the buildings. They’re not replicas, but have been brought, brick by brick, from around the region and rebuilt to give visitors a real sense of history.

Day 4: Durham and Locomotion

This morning there’s free time in Durham, a captivating city with winding cobbled streets and a prominent peninsula crowned with the dramatic Durham Cathedral and Castle UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon we visit Locomotion, part of the National Railway Museum with more than 70 locomotives and other railway heritage vehicles on display.

Day 5: Piece Hall and Home

We depart the hotel after breakfast and make the return journey to North Wales, stopping enroute at The Piece Hall in Halifax. The Piece Hall is unique - a Grade I listed Georgian masterpiece and the oldest remaining Georgian cloth hall in the world!

Standing at the heart of Halifax since 1779, the huge open-air courtyard is today surrounded by unique and boutique independent shops, bars, cafes and a restaurant. The stories of Georgian Halifax are told in the specially created exhibition spaces, while the central courtyard is a spectacular venue for a year-round events programme of live music, dance, film and spectacle. Afterwards, we complete our journey home to North Wales.
