Day 1: Travel to Holyhead for the 9.00am morning ferry crossing to Dublin and then continue our journey to our hotel for a 4-night stay.
Day 2: Full day at leisure in Waterford. Founded by Viking traders in 914, the city has an exciting medieval flavour and riverside bustle. Explore the history of the city from the Vikings to the Victorians, make time to visit the House of Waterford Crystal, the Museum of Treasures or the Bishop’s Palace. This afternoon you may want to visit a local bar and watch the 6 Nations rugby match between Wales and Italy which is being played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Day 3 (St. Patrick’s Day): The day is free in Waterford to enjoy the events taking place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The highlight of the day is the street parade, expect thousands to join the parade, when Waterford is transformed by the colour, pageantry and magic which is associated with the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. The parade will start at 1pm, the parade begins at the Waterford Bus Station and will proceed along the Quay, past the Clock Tower and the Plaza, moving around to the Mall. The viewing platform will be outside City Hall and the route will finish at Parnell Street. Come early to get the best view of the spectacular parade!
Day 4: Today enjoy a morning at leisure to recover from the previous day’s festivities. This afternoon we will take a short excursion to the village of Dunmore East, a charming little fishing port and seaside resort on the southern coast of Ireland, near the mouth of Waterford Harbour. The coastline in both directions is pretty and unspoiled, with headlands, coves and beaches. It is built in the Breton style and has several thatched cottages and a number of coves.
Day 5: After a leisurely breakfast we depart the hotel and travel to Dublin for the 2.50pm return ferry crossing to Holyhead.
